Bellway Strategic Land

Bellway Strategic Land is a specialised division of Bellway Homes. At Bellway our aim is not just to build new houses, it is to create attractive and sustainable communities that leave a positive legacy for residents and the wider society.

Bellway began as a small family business in 1946 – with a passion for building exceptional quality homes in carefully selected locations, inspired by the needs of real families. To this day, they maintain these same core values, combining their decades of expertise with the level of personalised care that Bellway is known for.

Bellway is recognised as a five-star builder by the Home Builders Federation. This award reflects their commitment to delivering exceptional quality as standard to their customers, throughout the construction process, in the homes created, and in their aftercare and customer service.

 

Building with Nature

There are always ways to build with nature within a development.

We will be required to show how we improve the environment. This is referred to as ‘biodiversity net gain’ and there is a mandatory requirement under national legislation to deliver a 10% net gain.

We are exploring using the Building with Nature Programme established by Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust and the University of the West of England. This is a way of holding ourselves to account.

Some of the things we’re planning:

  • Creation of significant areas of open space and planting, characteristic of the wider landscape in this area.
  • The provision of children’s play area, community orchard and wildflower meadow planting which will contribute towards a significant biodiversity net gain across the site.
  • We’re designing gardens so that they link to create corridors for wildlife throughout the community (e.g. hedgehog gates in fences).

Our approach to delivering this nature focussed scheme is informed by a comprehensive suite of wildlife habitats and species surveys – all to be reported in the technical work submitted as part of any future planning application.

Future Homes

Bellway has laid the foundations for the future by building an experimental new eco home – The Future Home @ The University of Salford.

It’s a home built inside a climate controlled chamber where Bellway can test new features and undertake research. What they learn helps them build better for people and the environment.

A variety of building materials and green technologies are being explored to help identify best practices when it comes to:

  • Storing solar energy at home
  • Recovering heat from wastewater
  • Placement and maximisation of air source heat pumps
  • Other carbon-reducing technologies
  • Testing different heating systems as we move away from reliance on fossil fuel technologies

A Sustainability Statement and Energy Strategy is currently being prepared and will be submitted as part of any future planning application.
